Today Nemesia taught her baby, Edwina, how to use her inhaler. Because, at it turns out, Edwina may be asthmatic too.
"Take a deep breath... Now hold it... Good!"

Baristas in the shower
Using the caps to Mommy's shaving cream, I pretended I was a little barista making drinks in the shower today.
Grande soy mocha, anyone?

a cute little bird
Mommy, "Nemesia...? Did you know that I love you?"
Nemesia, "Yes."
"How did you know?"
"A cute little birdie told me."

the differences between Mommy and Daddy
"Daddy? May I play with my new Play-Doh?"
"No."
Nemesia looks up to Mommy with dramatic sadness, "Daddy says 'No' a lot."
Mommy tries not to giggle and asks, "What do I say a lot...?"
"Oh my goodness!"
Mommy laughs and Nemesia smiles.

one day

As Mommy and I were taking a walk outside a cream colored Mini Cooper drove past...
"Mommy. I have always loved Mini Coopers..." I say wistfully.
"Oh? Is that so, Nemesia? Always?"
"Yes. When I grow up I'm going to drive a pink Mini Cooper..."
"I know, Nemesia. You've told me many times before."
I stop and look up at Mommy, "Or. Maybe. When I get older I'll drive a Toyota Highlander like Daddy and just race my pink Mini Cooper..." I smile.
Mommy laughs lightly and nods, "Okay, Nemesia... That sounds good."

expanded vocabulary
Today, as I helped Mommy pack my things, I saw her attempt to abscond with the bows I wore yesterday! Shocked, I asked her what she was doing.
"Nemesia. I'm taking your bows and placing them in this bag with all of your other hair accessories so that we don't lose them..."
"Oh," I replied, my face still scrunched a bit with concern. And then, as I looked up to Mommy and the bag she had referred to, I realized it was okay. "Fair enough," I said before turning around to resume testing out my tools.
Mommy resumed packing with a curious smile on her face. I think she was trying not to laugh.

The beach! THE BEACH!!

I went to the beach today with Mommy and the Aunties! It's like a giant sandbox! It was fantastic! But the seagulls ate all of my goldfish, just like in Curious George. My goldfish... all gone...
The waves were so scary - huge and huge! I made Mommy hold me, and she dipped my toesies in.
Auntie Laina saw a plastic bag blowing around, and she said, "I must stop the forces of evil!!" That was quite heroic of her.
The Aunties made beautiful sandcastles. Auntie Kelsey's was kind of like something from Lord of the Rings (that's what Mommy said) and Auntie Laina's was a combination of feathers and rocks and stuff. Mommy and Auntie Kelsey buried my legs in the sand and made a pretty mermaid tail just for me! I was so cute.
I love the beach!

Auntie Kelsey's graduation
Commencement Speech
by Kelsey Faul
So this is what it feels like to be on the edge of the world. Infinity stretches before us, and we can't even comprehend the beauty of it. Every step we take weaves the fabric of our lives in a new direction. It's both exhilarating and absolutely terrifying.
Life seems to be changing all around us, but maybe we are the only ones who are changing. We have new dreams that are just too big for this place. Someone wise, with 800 years of experience, once said that, "The dark side clouds everything. Impossible to see the future it is." As you look ahead, don't get too caught up with the idea of tomorrow. Instead, relish in your achievement, actively love the people you are with, and enjoy life. We only get to feel like this once.
In retrospect, I have on regret: that I didn't really get to know all of you. I had my prejudices and they held me back. But today, all I can think about is how proud I am of everyone who is graduating. You are accomplished, caring people. I admire your courage and determination, as well as your vivacity and irrepressible spirit. That spirit is what defines Guajome, where being eccentric and quirky is normal. If you want proof, just look at the person next to you... or just look at me.
Who you are right now will soon be lost forever; as you become new people, I hope that you will carry that spark of the unorthodox into everything you do. Remember that we are strong, we are intelligent, and we are full of life. We are the class of 2008.
Thank you.
